Brick estimates: use the visible face and the joint module
A simple wall-face estimate divides wall area by a repeating brick-and-joint module. It needs the brick face length and face height. Brick depth is a different measurement and cannot be substituted for face height.
A worked example
| Item | Example or check |
|---|---|
| Face length | 215 mm |
| Face height | 65 mm |
| Joint | 10 mm |
| Module area | 0.225 × 0.075 = 0.016875 m² |
| 10 m² face | About 592.593 units before allowance |
Check the assumptions
At 10% extra, the modular estimate becomes about 651.852 and rounds up to 652 bricks. This is an area-based planning count, not an exact coursing or bond drawing. Boundary joints and cuts prevent a module estimate from matching every physical wall exactly.
Subtract measured openings from the wall face once. For two separate leaves or a wall system with different materials, prepare separate quantities using the actual design. A single face-area result must not be multiplied blindly to infer a structural wall specification.
Before using the estimate
The tool does not estimate mortar, lintels, ties, foundation loads or structural adequacy. Ask the builder to check the count against the bond and project drawings.
