Wallpaper Roll Calculator
Estimate wallpaper rolls using full drops, trimming and an optional straight pattern repeat.
How to use this calculator
- Measure the relevant dimensions and select each input’s unit. Changing units converts your entered value.
- Use the coverage, dimensions or yield for the actual product you plan to buy. The starting numbers are worked examples.
- Calculate, review the assumptions below and check the final order against the project and supplier information.
Formula
Drops = round up(wall width ÷ roll width). Cut length = wall height + trim, rounded up to a whole pattern repeat if repeat > 0. Drops per roll = floor(roll length ÷ cut length). Rolls = round up(drops ÷ drops per roll).
Worked example
10 m width at 0.53 m per drop needs 19 drops. A 2.4 m height + 0.1 m trim with 0.53 m repeat needs 2.65 m cuts. A 10.05 m roll gives 3 drops, so buy 7 rolls.
Common mistakes and limitations
Equal-height walls, full vertical drops and straight matching only. No half-drop, offset alignment, initial pattern positioning, doors/windows deductions, stairwells or batch matching. Confirm the pattern instructions and keep suitable spare material.
Questions about wallpaper roll
Can I subtract doors and windows?
This model keeps full-height drops across the combined wall width. Openings do not always save a complete drop, so they are not deducted here.
What about half-drop matching?
Half-drop and other offset patterns are not supported. Use the manufacturer’s cutting and matching guidance.
