Fence Panel Calculator
Estimate whole fence panels for one straight run after subtracting gate openings.
How to use this calculator
- Measure the relevant dimensions and select each input’s unit. Changing units converts your entered value.
- Use the coverage, dimensions or yield for the actual product you plan to buy. The starting numbers are worked examples.
- Calculate, review the assumptions below and check the final order against the project and supplier information.
Formula
Net panel run = total run − gate openings. Panel count = round up(net run ÷ panel coverage).
Worked example
A 20 m run minus a 2 m gate leaves 18 m. At 1.8 m per panel, the estimate is 10 panels.
Common mistakes and limitations
One straight run only. Enter actual installed coverage including the effect of posts as advised by your supplier. Does not count posts, corners, gate posts, footings or determine wind resistance.
Questions about fence panel
Does this include posts or concrete?
No. Post positions, corners, gates and foundations require a separate layout and product instructions.
Why is panel coverage editable?
Nominal panel width may differ from installed coverage along the run. Use the coverage appropriate to the chosen system.
