Compare material quotes using the purchase unit and delivery
A fair quote comparison starts with the same required project quantity, then uses each supplier’s actual purchase unit. A cheaper pack can cost more overall if it covers less area or triggers another delivery.
A worked example
| Item | Example or check |
|---|---|
| Supplier A | 12 packs × 25 = 300 |
| Delivery A | 40 |
| Subtotal A | 340 |
| Illustrative tax 20% on subtotal | 68 |
| Total A | 408 |
Check the assumptions
The calculator applies the tax percentage to quantity times unit price plus delivery. That is an explicit modelling assumption. If your jurisdiction or quote taxes delivery differently, calculate those lines separately or use the supplier’s final tax breakdown.
Keep all values in one currency. Do not enter a unit rate per square metre with a quantity expressed as boxes. Convert the purchase count first or ask for a price in the same unit. Treat handling fees, minimum charges and returns as separate quote conditions.
Before using the estimate
The lowest arithmetic total is only one part of the decision. Product suitability, exact coverage, availability and delivery access still need checking. The tool does not retrieve live prices or tax rules.
Open the Material Cost Calculator and compare your measurements with the example.
