How many tile boxes should you buy? Use the box coverage
Use the coverage printed on the box when the purchase unit is a box. Individual tile dimensions can help cross-check the label, but the pack coverage gives a direct route from area to the number of boxes you can order.
A worked example
| Item | Example or check |
|---|---|
| Net floor | 18 m² |
| Chosen extra | 10% |
| Target | 19.8 m² |
| Labelled coverage | 1.44 m² per box |
| Boxes | Round up 13.75 to 14 |
Check the assumptions
The result buys 20.16 m². That is 0.36 m² above the allowance-adjusted target. Keep this rounding surplus visible instead of describing all surplus as cutting waste.
Measure separate spaces and list them before adding. Subtract an opening only if it is genuinely outside the tiled surface. Tiles around a fixed cabinet, alcove or doorway may still require cuts; an area-based estimate cannot simulate each cut or prove that offcuts will fit elsewhere.
Before using the estimate
Check batch and shade information with the supplier. Buying the mathematically exact area does not guarantee a matching replacement later. This tool estimates coverage and does not specify substrate preparation or installation.
Open the Tile Calculator and compare your measurements with the example.
